Comida

I am on the hunt for good Mexican food in the Phoenix area. I went to el barrio on 16th street over the weekend. A few people recommended this to me and while it was good it wasn't great. Excellent tequilas, decent food, terrible device. In a pla with so much Mexican heritage, where is all the good Mexican food?? Chicago and dc both trump what I've had out here. I suspect I'm missing the good stuff. Thoughts??

  1. I like Carolina's at 202 East Mohave Street Phoenix, AZ 85034. Their food will put a smile on your face. I like to go for lunch, but be prepared for a line!

  2. Yeah it's surprising, I've found that the best Mexican food in the area is in Scottsdale. However, sometimes I get terrible service up there but it's still really good food for the most part.

  5. There is definitely some great authentic Mexican food i n Phoenix. This is for sure the best because it is the Southwest of course. For the best tortillas in town, you have to check out Carolina’s on Cave Creek and Cactus. Also, the Matador is in Downtown Phoenix and is close to campus. I think it’s around Adams and 1st street. They have been open for about 20 or some years and they are family owned. They are pretty well known. Another place I have always wanted to check out that is a little more of a fusion restaurant, rather than strictly Mexican is the Tortilla Factory. It is definitely a little expensive for a student budget, but with our amazing weather the patio seating seems like it would be lovely. Here is a link to their website http://www.oldtowntortillafactory.com. However, I grew up on Carlos O’Brien’s and they now have a couple of restaurants around the valley. The closest is either North Scottsdale or 12th St and Northern. It’s not really authentic Mexican per se, but I think it’s really yummy. I hope you find something that pleases your palette because it’s breaking this Phoenician’s heart to hear you say that DC and Chi-town have better Mexican. That’s just embarrassing!
